Junos 2015 nominations: Drake, Leonard Cohen, Chromeo, Hedley get nods for best in Canadian music

Leonard Cohen, Avril Lavigne, MAGIC!, Nickelback, Drake and Chromeo were among the diverse list of artists given nods by the Juno Awards committee as the nominations for the 2015 ceremony were announced at Toronto’s Danforth Music Hall Tuesday morning.

“Canadian artists have had quite the year,” JUNO Awards president/CEO Allan Reid said at Tuesday announcement of the nominations for the best in Canadian music for 2014.

Magic! garnered a leading five nominations: Fan Choice, Single of the Year, Breakthrough Group of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, Pop Album of the Year.

Close behind with four nods were Kiesza (Single of the Year, Breakthrough Artist of the Year, Dance Recording of the Year, Video of the Year) and Leonard Cohen (JUNO Fan Choice, Album of the Year, Artist of the Year, Adult Alternative Album of the Year).

“Many of our rising stars have had international breakthroughs,” Reid added.

Artists with three nods each are Hedley (Fan Choice, Single of the Year, Album of the Year), Nickelback (Fan Choice, Album of the Year, Group of the Year), and Serge Fiori (Fan Choice, Album of the Year, Francophone Album of the Year).

The Junos are due to be doled out to be presented March 15 in Hamilton. The show, which will include performances by Hedley, retro-electro dance starlet Kiesza of Calgary, and Hamilton’s own Arkells. Legendary prog-rock pioneers Rush will be on hand as well to receive the Allan Waters Humanitarian Award. The broadcast will air on CTV.
